De Geschiedenis van Griffoendor
Griffoendor werd meer dan duizend jaar geleden opgericht door Goderic Griffoendor, een van de vier legendarische stichters van Zweinsteins Hogeschool voor Hekserij en Hocus-Pocus. Goderic stond in de hele tovenaarswereld bekend om zijn uitzonderlijke duelleervaardigheid en zijn overtuiging dat Zweinstein alle jonge heksen en tovenaars moest accepteren die magisch talent toonden, ongeacht hun bloedstatus.
De afdeling ontleent zijn symbool aan de leeuw, die moed en kracht vertegenwoordigt. De Griffoendor leerlingenkamer, gelegen in de Griffoendortoren, is toegankelijk via een portret van de Dikke Dame en vereist een wachtwoord om binnen te komen. At the heart of the Gryffindor crest stands a golden lion, the king of beasts and a perfect emblem for the house of the brave. Set against a scarlet field, the Gryffindor lion has become one of the most recognisable symbols in the entire wizarding world, worn with pride by generation after generation of students.

De Griffoendor leerlingenkamer is een van de warmste en meest gastvrije ruimtes in Kasteel Zweinstein.
