Originally belonging to Godric Gryffindor, it was enchanted with the wisdom and knowledge of all four founders to continue their legacy of sorting students into the houses that best suit their qualities. The hat gained sentience and the ability to read minds, becoming one of Hogwarts' most treasured magical artifacts.
